A Simple Prayer

As some of you may know, this has been a very trying year, and in this time, God has really helped us refocus on him. A few main ways He has reached us are through song and prayer. That being said, yesterday my wife and I were listening to some praise songs, and a few came to mind that we loved. Their words together formed the perfect prayer, and I thought I would share it with you all. Needless to say, this will be a bit of a different post than usual.

Baba Yetu,

I was sure by now, God, You would have reached down and wiped our tears away, but as the thunder rolls, I can barely hear Your whisper through the rain, "I am with you." I pray You remind me that You are my shelter from the storms, and if this is what it takes to praise You—Jesus, bring the rain. I will praise You in this storm, and I will lift my hands because You hold in Yours every tear I have cried; You have never left my side, no matter where I am.

As Your mercy falls, bring me joy, bring me peace, and the chance to be free. Though I am Yours regardless, and though my strength is almost gone, I have to say: thank You, thank You, thank You for one more day. When my enemies turned up the fire, El Shaddai, You were right there beside me. So, I lift my eyes unto the hills, ’cause that is where my help comes from—the Maker of heaven and earth. I'll praise You in this storm.
